Fournier: Clinton Team Believes ‘Trust Doesn’t Matter’

National Journal Senior Political Columnist and Editorial Director Ron Fournier reported that Hillary Clinton’s campaign staff believes “trust doesn’t matter” on Wednesday’s “Special Report” on the Fox News Channel.

“When you talk to people at the highest levels of the Clinton campaign, it is striking how they really believe, they believe, and they will say out loud, that trust is not an issue. That their trust matters don’t matter. They look at Clinton who beat Bush — beat Bush and Dole, when his trust numbers were lower than the two of them, and they see from that the lesson that trust doesn’t matter. What they don’t realize is the whole world has changed since then. … They’re still working out of a playbook where there was maybe, what two dozen of us? Who were kind of the gatekeepers in the media, and if you could schmooze us, if could intimidate some of us, if you could wear out — wait out the rest of us, you could get away with this stuff. Well, now there’s not just a couple dozen media members. There’s 300 million, who have access to information, and access to other people who feel like them. And this trust issue is everything in this election. And if she doesn’t get — somehow on the right side of that, she’s in big trouble.”
